top tips for detangling natural hair.

top tips:

  1. Work on clean-ish hair: if the tangling and dirt is much, put down the leave-in and give your hair extensions a full wash and condition. we love a hydrating shampoo and don’t forget the conditioner is key to restore moisture and help reduce tangling and breakage.

    Recommendations:
    - Shampoo
    - Conditioner

  2. Start with damp hair: Detangling dry hair can cause breakage, damage and far too much pain. Mist your extensions with water or a water-based detangling spray to make the process smoother. Add a leave-in conditioner or detangling spray to add slip and reduce friction.

    Tool Recommendations:
    - Ruka Mist Spray Bottle
    - Mielle Organics Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner

  3. Use a detangling brush and work in sections: These tools are essential for gently detangling without causing damage to the curls. Divide the hair into smaller, manageable sections.

    Tool Recommendations:
    - FHI Heat unbrush detangler
    - Tangle Teezer Naturally Curly Detangling Brush
    - Hair Sectioning Clips

  4. Go easy! Go easy on your Ruka hair or own hair🥹 Start detangling from the ends and work your way up to the wefts or scalp, with enough tension in each section to avoid shedding. Holding hair at the base of your scalp will reduce the pulling at the root.

    Bonus Tip!

If you feel like you’re fighting your hair instead of working with your hair, add more leave-in conditioner or water, and then begin detangling once your hair has absorbed the moisture.
